A simple guide for Directors and PSCs to help them find their Companies House Identity Verification Details
If you are a Director or a Person with Significant Control (PSC) of an organisation, you now need to verify your identity for Companies House, the first step is understanding when it applies to you. This guide shows you exactly where to look on the Companies House website to find that information.
Step 1: Go to Companies House
Visit the Companies House service and search for your company by name or company number.

Step 2: Open your company record
Click on the correct company name to open the public company page.

Step 3: Click the “People” tab
At the top of the company page, select People.
This section lists:
Officers (Directors)
People with Significant Control (PSCs)

Step 4: Check each role separately
This is important.
Companies House treats Directors and PSCs as separate roles, even if they are the same person.
Look under Directors for your director role
Look under People with Significant Control (PSCs) for your PSC role
If you appear in both sections, both must be checked.

Step 5: Understand what the listing tells you
If you are a Director:
Your identity must be verified before the next confirmation statement is filed
You should complete verification as soon as possible
If you are a PSC:
You have a strict 14-day verification window:
If you are also a director: Your 14-day window is linked to the company’s confirmation statement date
If you are NOT a director: Your 14-day window is the first 14 days of your birth month
Companies House usually emails the registered company email address or sends a letter to the registered address when a PSC window opens.
If you are a Director and a PSC, you must complete both steps.
What to do next
Do not wait for deadlines — verify as early as possible
Keep your Companies House personal code once issued
Provide the code to your accountant when requested
If you’re unsure which role applies to you, or whether your window is open, seek advice promptly.
